Some Thoughts from Dr. Meehl on Vetting & Veterinarians...

“Vetting”, I particularly like this word as it speaks to the integrity of our profession. It is an old word of obscure Latin, French, and Anglo-Saxon origin. The meaning is to check up on someone or something and to determine its suitability. In 17th century France the word, “veterinus”, referred to mature cattle and the word, “vetus”, or “vetere”, referred to the old. (As an old veteran) Thus during times when a man was dependent upon the soundness of his herd, he was in need of trusted counsel for his livelihood and well being.
